The reason I love barcamp/startupcamp/ this camp-camp thingy

I think Senedi has the most correct and lovable definition of this camp-camp thingy that i always wanted to explain to everyone ( but unexplainable because of my horrendous terrible english that I practice )

Call it anything you want.

Startup Camp doesn’t really mind. It doesn’t mind that the schedule is hosted on a Wiki and then transferred onto sticky notes on a glass wall. It doesn’t matter that the speakers are young, old, millionaires, unemployed or if they’re from any race or religion. And it definitely doesn’t mind if you just dropped in for a few minutes, or if you stayed the whole two days. You can even walk out of a session if you decide to do so, grab the microphone if you wanted to speak your mind and pitch your point to anyone who’ll listen. Startup Camp doesn’t charge either, so you can walk in for free.

So what does it do, actually?

Unsurprising to those who are already familiar to the concept, Startup Camp is a self-organizing conference. It is organized by the participants, for the participants. We get the venue, food, t-shirts. We do the marketing, evangelizing, planning. We put up the buntings, set up the place, register participants. We coordinate the sessions, speak, take photographs. And then we share, learn and network.

And yes, I do

  1. I’m not a millionaire
  2. I just gave a lightning talks during foss.my which force me to do a rapid research
  3. I didn’t gave a talk so much but yet, I want to make use of this experience ( camp-camp thingy ) to practice my public speaking before aiming to become an accountable and lovely dictator in this Boleh-Land where all people enjoy free Wimax and Red Alert 3 multiplayer.
  4. The un-formality of un-conference makes the audience become more open without feeling awkward.
  5. Hello, it was the place where sharing, is simply extremely act of caring, without prawns behind the rocks or fried mee ( direct translation of : udang disebalik batu dan mi goreng :p )
  6. The world just awesome ( which is.. very far-fetched from the reason directly, but indirectly, it was because you’re meeting new people with new ideas and it’s always newness. )

And I’ve just updated company blog with my review on Start-Up Camp KL last week. Have a read for a spin of mindset and point of view on how you look upon this world and why you shall celebrate the differences in skillsets and ideas.

Oh well, feel free to add the company into your facebook account :)
